Hey, i noticed you warned me that my work is "derived from other works", without explaining what it is derived from. Peachy1621 (talk) 21:24, 8 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

It looks as though you've addressed this in this edit. Thanks. Omphalographer (talk) 21:48, 8 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thank you very much for repairing the broken file. Can the same magic applied to this one, please? NearEMPTiness (talk) 06:57, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

I'm afraid there's nothing there to repair. It's just an empty rectangle. Omphalographer (talk) 07:10, 12 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

I know this sound on Minecraft, but i changed to GFDL. Ludo Games (talk) 03:35, 27 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

You can't do that. This audio is a derivative work of Minecraft - you can't apply your own license to it. Omphalographer (talk) 04:05, 27 April 2025 (UTC)Reply

Warning

[edit]

Hi Omphalographer. I noticed that you've made malformed deletion requests in the four files discussed in Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by كلالة محمد: omitting the year, month, and day for each. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion or Nominate category for discussion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar provided by the AjaxQuickDelete gadget per subpolicy procedures COM:DR#Starting requests and COM:CFD#Starting requests), you MUST follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy or the "By hand" portion of subpolicy procedure COM:CFD#Starting requests, normally collapsed), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. Warning: such edits are not tolerated and have led to account blocks, as "We cannot work here with people who are not willing to follow our procedures, in particular for deletion requests."   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 19:24, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Dude, chill. I had to put this deletion request together manually because VFC couldn't handle the filenames, and I wanted to list them together rather than having four separate discussions. No need to get all bite-y because I left some optional fields out of the deletion templates. Omphalographer (talk) 19:30, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, that's my standardized message. Those fields are required.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 20:09, 10 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Template deletion requests

[edit]

When you nominate a template for deletion, it's best to add any supporting pages to the deletion request as well - it makes it easier for an admin to close it. For example, with Commons:Deletion requests/Template:Convert to STL, there were four subpages and six categories to delete as well. Thanks, Pi.1415926535 (talk) 20:09, 23 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Good point, thanks. I'll keep that in mind in the future. Omphalographer (talk) 20:18, 23 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Logos

[edit]

Hi. I've been going through logos for a while now and haven't been able to make any kind of dent in them myself. So if you want to work together to go through them in a more systematic way I'd be interested in doing that. Maybe we could announce it regularly on the Village Pump or something so other people can get involved. I think that's the only way they will be dealt with to any meaningful degree though. There has to be at least a couple of users who are willing to do nothing but go through the images until most of them have been deleted or at least checked and properly categorized otherwise. --Adamant1 (talk) 02:12, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

What I was angling for was more along the lines of speedy (or at least somewhat expedited) deletion for new uploads of unused logos which can't be easily identified. Doesn't necessarily help with the existing backlog, but it could help slow down the influx. Omphalographer (talk) 04:41, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
That's fair. Don't the images already qualify for G10 anyway though? --Adamant1 (talk) 22:46, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Generally not. An uploaded logo, in isolation, isn't clearly promotional in nature. Omphalographer (talk) 22:49, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Joyride image

[edit]

Hi, why did you nominate the Joyride image for speedy deletion? It was uploaded to Commons by Ryan Trahan's team after I reached out to them. That information is also in the Talk page for the Ryan Trahan article. SOner (talk) 01:29, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Because photos of product packaging are generally derivative works and cannot be hosted on Commons. See COM:PACKAGING for more information. Omphalographer (talk) 01:30, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
They own the copyright and uploaded the image. I don't see what the issue is. SOner (talk) 01:36, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

About my images..

[edit]

I do not understand why, my images were deleted, showcasing the logos and flags make my pages seem more like wp articles. Shaneapickle (talk) 17:16, 5 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Commons only hosts images which are "useful for an educational purpose". These images were only in use on your user sandbox page about a nonexistent micronation, which is not within Wikipedia's educational scope. Omphalographer (talk) 18:40, 5 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
It literally is a real micronation? Shaneapickle (talk) 19:13, 5 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I see we've been through this already. Please reread the comments which were made at Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Shaneapickle, regarding similar files you uploaded previously. Omphalographer (talk) 19:38, 5 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi "Omphalographer", sorry but i don't speak english very well, so speak in italian. ❗ Do not delete – this image is mine, and Google Lens confirms it.

[edit]

Hi,

This file does not qualify for CSD F10. I am the original creator and copyright holder of the image titled:

“Che la mia ferita sia mortale – Yaram ölümcül olsun”

I, İbrahim Murat Gündüz, personally designed, edited, and publicly published this visual. It is part of my public political and national expression campaign. I shared it widely, and it is used in several of my official publications, as proven below.

🔗 Public and verifiable sources where the image is used by me

🧠 Additionally:

A basic Google Lens or reverse image search clearly confirms that this image is associated with me across platforms. I’m publicly visible, verifiable, and publishing under my legal name. This is not a stock image, not stolen, not a random upload.

❓Is the deletion warning due to a real copyright concern, or simply neglecting to research? I ask this respectfully, but firmly. You’re disputing images that contain my dog, my award photo, and now even my own designed media art. That’s not good faith.

🚫 Please remove the deletion tag and avoid hasty assumptions. ✅ I’m reachable and transparent. Wikimedia must not punish users who present public, verifiable, and authored content.

Thank you, User:Ibrahimmuratgunduz Ibrahimmuratgunduz (talk) 22:28, 19 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) Omphalographer is not an admin, they cannot delete files. F10 doesn't pertain to copyright, it's "personal photos by non-contributors." I will note that Commons is not Facebook. Abzeronow (talk) 00:13, 20 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

It appears that you listed several images for deletion incorrectly. I've corrected this; you should have just received a notification on your talk page with a link to the new discussion. Omphalographer (talk) 20:23, 31 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Is there any other category trees that you wish to get rid of while we are already at it? Trade (talk) 22:07, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Nothing that immediately comes to mind. Omphalographer (talk) 22:43, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Would you be opposed to categorize video games and films by their age rating classifications? (ESRB, PEGI, Motion Picture Association (MPA), etc) Trade (talk) 15:41, 2 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I would be opposed to that. The rating of a film is exactly the sort of information which belongs in Wikidata. I can't imagine any situation where it would be useful as a Commons category. Do such categories currently exist, or are you testing the waters before creating some? Omphalographer (talk) 20:52, 2 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am trying to figure out where we are supposed to draw line. With no policy or even PSA to to cite or guide us determining whether or not a category tree is considered "inappropriate metadata" is basically up in the air. Trade (talk) 22:40, 3 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
The guiding principle I've used is that Commons is for media, and its categories should focus on categorizing that media and making it easier to find. With this principle in mind, the ratings of a movie don't usefully describe the sorts of media Commons tends to host about movies (typically logos, occasional set photos, and promotional appearances by actors), and the rating of a film isn't likely to be useful to someone searching for media about films. Omphalographer (talk) 02:28, 4 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

AI images

[edit]

I never really understood the eliminations, I agree that many of the ones I sent in the beginning were bad, but I try to show that you can create with AIs, especially in the last ones, where I put the prompts, sometimes they end up stopping at entries. Hyju (talk) 09:45, 20 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

my deleted uploads reverted

[edit]

Hey Omphalographer, i don't why you deleted my uploaded files from my screenshots, i don't how to upload a file without getting a speedy deletion because i'm not a expert, but how do i upload files from wikicommons without getting Copyright Violation, then what licensing template should i use to Kuyalanz (talk) 00:53, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Screenshots of video games are generally copyrighted and cannot be uploaded to Commons. Omphalographer (talk) 00:59, 21 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
it's because is in public domain, so fair-use is accepted option, i mean not also my uploaded screenshots, but also my audio files also removed too Kuyalanz (talk) 05:05, 22 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
You are incorrect on both points - these files are not in the public domain, and fair use uploads are not permitted on Commons. Generally speaking, content is only in the public domain if its copyright has expired, if it was created by certain government bodies, or if the author specifically chose to release it into the public domain. None of those were the case here. Omphalographer (talk) 05:51, 22 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
then, what should i do to not get copyright violation from uploading files? Kuyalanz (talk) 03:27, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Don't upload files which are not freely licensed. If you're uncertain about whether something is freely licensed, ask for help on Commons:Help desk before you upload it. Omphalographer (talk) 03:50, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Daggerfall Sound effects.wav

[edit]

this an example of my uploaded audio files, it is in CC0 1.O (Public Domain), i'm not sure if you want to speedy deletion again, because i'm trying to enter a different license, so people can see it is okay or not to have copyrighted sound effects wav. , could be also a CC-BY-4.0 safe option for this? Kuyalanz (talk) 06:21, 30 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

What led you to suspect this file was licensed under CC0? It certainly isn't your own work. Omphalographer (talk) 01:50, 31 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
It's just an example!, i didn't mean to actually begin to uploading files right now, i'm just testing if people find something wrong about my upload and also you, because it is a example of freely licensed file you said previously in my talk. Kuyalanz (talk) 11:58, 1 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

File:Flag of Aksana (Micronation).svg

[edit]

Hello Omphalographer, I reach out not to complain, however to compliment you on filing File:Flag of Aksana (Micronation).svg for deletion, as the file that was uploaded according to the website of the micronation is copyrighted and may not be distributed without appropriate credit, which the uploader of the file took credit violating CC BY-ND 4.0, with the page directly stating: "all symbols of the Republic of Aksana are copyrighted and require direct written permission for usage, these files are under CC BY-ND 4.0, you may not use the material for commercial purposes, may not be recreated, and must be given appropriate credit." - SnowieLuna1212 (talk) 23:06, 31 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi,

I hope the description is clear now. --Botev (talk) 06:40, 12 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

(talk page stalker) @Botev: the ChatGPT work didn't make a creative derivative with new copyrights out of the source, so you should have kept the original license and not inserted another one. The source file was licensed under {{Cc-by-sa-3.0-pl}} and had a clear attribution statement. These information must be kept when you're producing a derivative, especially one where you don't have own rights on. It's fixed now, but please remind this when you do similar work again! Deletion clarification

[edit]

It appears a deletion request closed within a few hours and so I can't question the request there, so I would like to ask why you say this:

"Out of scope: contrary to the description, this is an AI-generated diagram, not a clipping from a book. Omphalographer (talk) 22:32, 17 October 2025 (UTC)"

It's not out of scope, it is not contrary to the description, and it is a clipping from a book. PaulHSAndrews (talk) 09:12, 18 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Request to retain Mallo Fortunato's personal image for official use on Wikidata and Wikipedia

[edit]

Hello, I would like to provide some information about this image to explain why I believe it should be kept on Wikimedia Commons. This photo represents me personally, a real person with a verified identity on official platforms such as Facebook and others. I uploaded the image under the Creative Commons BY 4.0 license, ensuring that I am the author and grant the right to reuse it according to the terms of the license. The image is useful for encyclopedic purposes as it represents the subject of the homonymous entry on Wikidata and Wikipedia, and it is used as the official image for my digital identity. I therefore believe it meets the Wikimedia Commons criteria for relevant and properly licensed personal images, as it serves to clearly identify the entity described in Wikimedia projects. I am available to add further information or links if requested, and to update the photo description to facilitate verification. I therefore request that this image be kept active and not deleted, as I believe it has every right to be part of the archive due to its documentary and identity value. Thank you for your attention and availability. Mallo Fortuanto (discussione) 13:26, 22 October 2025 (UTC) Mallo Fortuanto (talk) 13:30, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
