Fictional logos report
[edit]Hello friend. Recently I have come across a large number of Coca Cola logos uploaded by someone named User:Catalin Vizireanu 532. The first thing that strikes is that many are low quality JPGs (not suitable) but actually look closer and most of them are actually fake, created by themselves (this one for example : File:Diet Coke Spiced Square Logo.jpg) or originals that have been 'tampered' with.
I wanted to nominate these each for a deletion but when on their talk page, I see that you warned them before of uploading fake/fictional country flags. So now I'm reporting to you that this person has been uploading fake logos. I will try and make a nomination for them all (if I can find out how) but in the mean time I think it is important to report this to you. --3marish (talk) 21:37, 12 September 2025 (UTC)

Round 1 of Picture of the Year 2024 voting is open!
[edit]
Dear Wikimedian,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2024 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year is the nineteenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2024) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 1 will end on UTC.
Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee

[edit]While I obviously agree with your close it was not appropriate to speedy delete this. SD3 refers to obvious derivative works like screenshots, not complex edge cases like this. Dronebogus (talk) 15:52, 17 September 2025 (UTC)
- @Dronebogus: CSD F3 is regularly used for toys, per COM:TOYS. It's not an edge case at all, IMO. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 22:17, 17 September 2025 (UTC)

That DR
[edit]While I disagree with the outcome (as some will inevitably do in contentious DRs), I want to thank you for your careful duty as a fellow admin and for providing a detailed closing rationale. I’m sure the broader questions this raises (such as how long after death dignity-based claims should remain valid—5 years, 50 years, etc.) will be revisited at some point, but until then, thanks for handling this one thoughtfully. --Jonatan Svensson Glad (talk) 21:15, 19 September 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 23:59, 19 September 2025 (UTC)

Clarification Needed: Removal of Legally Permitted Wikimedia Content
[edit]@CoconutOctopus: — Preceding unsigned comment added by OnixWikiEditor (talk • contribs) 20:13, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
Hello, The Squirrel Conspiracy,
I noticed that some of my contributions, including images uploaded with proper VRT permissions, were removed from Wikipedia / Commons / Wikidata. I would like to understand why these deletions occurred, as these images are attached with copyright release declarations and are legitimate under Wikimedia policies.
For example, the file was uploaded with a proper VRT permission declaration email template to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and tagged with {subst:PP}. This content should not have been removed according to Commons policy.
Could you please review this action or guide me on how to restore compliant content? I am happy to provide any references or permissions documentation needed to clarify. OnixWikiEditor (talk) 20:03, 20 September 2025 (UTC)
Regarding deletion of File:RojgaarResult.in Logo.png (G10 - Advertising)
[edit]Hello,
I noticed that my file File:RojgaarResult.in Logo.png was deleted under G10 (advertising).
I would like to clarify that this file was not created for promotion but only for identification and branding purposes.
It was simply the logo of my website/brand, with no additional promotional content or slogans. Could you please let me know from which angle it was considered promotional?
Additionally, I see that many of my contributions across Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Commons have been removed. I kindly request clarification because the logo was uploaded in good faith, strictly for identification (similar to how other brand or organization logos are used under fair use or as identification). Proposed Deletion
[edit]https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:VickyAVNAwards.jpg
I see this was denied. I am the person who uploaded that file and I support it being deleted. For some reason on google when I type in my real name it is the only picture that pops up. I don't see any reason for that and I don't see my real name tagged in the photo but regardless it's an old picture that I'd like removed if you don't mind. I think it's only used on one dated Italian page. I'd really appreciate it if you don't mind. Thanks! Vickyvette (talk) 15:04, 25 September 2025 (UTC)
Done I removed it from the it.wiki article and another admin deleted the file. It will probably still come up in searches though for a while. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 14:57, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

About the deletion of File:Venus floating city concept.png
[edit]Hello, I noticed that my file Venus floating city concept.png was deleted as “Personal AI generated image (F10)”. I completely understand the general concern about AI images.
I just wanted to clarify that my intention was not to upload “fan art”, but to provide an illustration for the article Colonization of Venus (sections Aerostat habitats and floating cities / Hábitats aerostáticos y ciudades flotantes). The concept depicted in the image matches the type of speculative habitats described in those sections.
If there is no way to host such an illustration under Commons rules, that’s fine — I don’t want to cause trouble. I just thought it might be useful to readers to have a modern visual alongside the historical concept art already shown.
Thank you for your time and for the work you do.
Best regards, --Zeist Antilles (contact) 18:25, 27 September 2025 (UTC)

Undeletion Request: File:Timmah Blaq Picture.jpg & Restoration of Wikidata Item Q136170428
[edit]Hello, The Squirrel Conspiracy.
I am writing to appeal the deletion of my file and to request assistance with the associated Wikidata item.
1. Deletion Details:
• The file, File:Timmah Blaq Picture.jpg, was deleted by you on 11 September 2025 under CSD F10 (personal files by non-contributors). I understand this was a technical cleanup after the associated Wikidata Item, Q136170428, was deleted on 10 September 2025 for "non-notable and promotional" reasons.
2. New Evidence of Notability (Google KP):
• I have since established verifiable notability as a musician, proven by a fully operational and active Google Knowledge Panel (KP).
• This KP is live and pulls data from multiple verified platforms, including Apple Music, Audiomack, and Boomplay.
• Proof Link: https://www.google.com/search?q=Timmah+Blaq&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-gb&client=safari#ebo=0
3. Request:
• I respectfully request that you restore the file.
• I also ask that you kindly coordinate with a Wikidata admin to restore Q136170428.
Commitment: Once the Wikidata item is restored, I will immediately populate it with the verified identifiers (P1902/Spotify, P3881/Apple Music, etc.) from my KP, ensuring it is a complete, well-sourced entity that satisfies all notability and sourcing requirements.
Thank you for your time and assistance. Best regards, Timmah Blaq Timmah Blaq (talk) 13:20, 29 September 2025 (UTC)

Hi,
the DR was not even one week old and you chose a speedy deletion rationale "F3. Derivative work of non-free content" as reason. Can you please explain why? Regards, Msb (talk) 13:06, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- Please see Commons:FOP Kuwait. The 'functional building doesn't have copyright' argument you made is nonsense. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 14:55, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- Please read Commons:Criteria_for_speedy_deletion#File F3 Derivative work of non-free content: Given the complexity of copyright rules like freedom of panorama and de minimis, such issues must be resolved in a formal deletion request. I ask you to revert your edit. Regards, Msb (talk) 17:22, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- You are free to go to COM:UNDEL. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 17:24, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- Maybe I do. But however, I will certainly raise this obvious disregard for Commons regulations by you elsewhere. Sadly. Msb (talk) 17:33, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

you've mistakenly deleted my files
[edit]hello squirrel, i was just about to close this tab when i realize.. wait.. where are my files? i do as anyone would, and check out what kind of mistake i made when uploading them, only to find out that i had not made any mistakes, and that the reason you deleted them is invalid.
the deletion log reads:
* 05:25, 1 October 2025 The Squirrel Conspiracy talk contribs deleted page File:DESTROY Culture flag.png (Personal photo by non-contributors (F10)) Tag: VisualFileChange (thank) (global usage; delinker log)
the direct citation reads as follows:
"F10. Personal files by non-contributors Low-to-medium quality selfies and other personal files (including AI generated images) of or by users who have no constructive global contributions.[2]"
the photos in question were flags, representing beliefs that do not currently have an existing flag. these were NOT personal photos, because a flag is free-use and in the public domain. they were not low quality, the dimensions were 1600 x 1000. they were not AI-generated, i made them myself. and it's very clearly not a selfie. i had intended for others to use them, and although they were unpopular, that does not automatically mean that they are "personal."
also, it says "by non-contributors," this implies that, by contributing to the database, i'm not a contributor. it is completely, and logically flawed to say this is a true statement, based on the actual, current definition of "contributor." i will be requesting the restoration of not only this file, but the other flag i posted, with the deletion log here:
* 05:25, 1 October 2025 The Squirrel Conspiracy talk contribs deleted page File:Break Culture flag.png (Personal photo by non-contributors (F10)) Tag: VisualFileChange (thank) (global usage; delinker log)
both of these were deleted for the same, flawed reasoning.
see to it that these are restored within a reasonable time frame. Thecameraman arras (talk) 17:24, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- The criteria for speedy deletion doesn't specify it has to be photos. Please see COM:SCOPE. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 17:55, 5 October 2025 (UTC)
- are.. you serious? did you even read it or are you just skimming? i mean i understand that you might be a busy person but you need to actually read it.
you have just responded to my case with:
"The criteria for speedy deletion doesn't specify it has to be photos. Please see COM:SCOPE."
however, this is irrelevant information, because the files i provided are following the COM:SCOPE guidelines, even if they aren't photos.
i merely used the word "photos" because that was the reason given in the deletion log.
if you are referring to the description of the files, then it still follows guidelines because the quoted text underlines the very essence of purpose, and intended usage of the flags.
unless you can give me a direct citation to what rule/regulation i failed to follow, then i need these files restored. i'd be more than happy to clarify the description if that's what you need from me, but i need them restored first Thecameraman arras (talk) 07:19, 6 October 2025 (UTC) - (talk page stalker) @Thecameraman arras: how, exactly, are these supposed to be in scope? They do not appear to me to be 'educational" (rather the opposite). They do not seem to qualify as part of a small number of personal images for your talk page. - Jmabel ! talk 14:38, 6 October 2025 (UTC)
- well, the files are educational for two reasons.
1. they are a new piece of information, not posted anywhere else.
2. under this website's direct definition of education: to be understood according to its broad meaning of "providing knowledge; instructional or informative"
the description of both "break culture" flags, is based on a quote that describes the idea, the words, that led to their creation. along with a brief descriptor of the geometry of the flags. the intention is to give the reader a more personal way to relate to either flag, so they can decide which words they resonate with the most. Thecameraman arras (talk) 00:18, 7 October 2025 (UTC)- i can see you're still active, and that you've had more than enough time to respond, but didn't. i take it this means you just don't care enough to spend your time debating with me, so i will be re-uploading the files, tomorrow, with a more detailed, in-depth description. to make sure this doesn't happen again.
and another thing, i don't really care too much about the TVIE flag, but that one isn't even debatable about whether or not it's "educational,"
it is.
you've shown your bias.. and with this hand i have been blessed, i bid you farewell. Thecameraman arras (talk) 12:01, 10 October 2025 (UTC)- (talk page stalker) @Thecameraman arras: If you want to argue for undeletion, use COM:UDEL. If you re-upload the file instead, most likely your account will be blocked. - Jmabel ! talk 14:36, 10 October 2025 (UTC)

Why did you delete my images?
[edit]Hello, I wanted to ask why did you delete my images. I've uploaded them for a university class project, and I have to present them. I wanted to know the reasons why so I can correct the mistakes. Thank you! These are the images:
“Person with a laptop” à https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Person_with_a_laptop.png
“Business person” à https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Business_person.png
“Handshake between 2 people” à https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Handshake_between_two_people.png
“Nurse 2025” à https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nurse_2025.png
“Porch” à https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Porch.png Ellly35 (talk) 08:25, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Ellly35: , they were deleted because they were out of Wikimedia Commons' scope. Wikimedia Commons isn't for hosting personal images - university assignment or otherwise.
- This is especially true for AI-generated images, because there are unresolved legal and ethical issues with them (Wikimedia Commons is founded on respect for copyright, and the AI engines are scraping content without regard for copyright).
- I would encourage you to look through the millions of photographs already on Commons for non-AI images you can use in your assignment instead. For example, there are hundreds of images in each of Category:People using laptops, Category:Businesspeople, Category:Handshakes, etcetera.
- Good luck with your studies! The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 21:30, 7 October 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for your reply. I understand the issues surrounding copyright, but before uploading them, I checked the Wikimedia Commons guidelines regarding images generated with artificial intelligence and followed all the instructions. As for the concerns about personal images, as I wrote in the image descriptions, the ultimate goal was to fight the biases and stereotypes in the images that artificial intelligence feeds on by providing images that go against these stereotypes. Sure, it's a university project, but there's a bigger goal behind those images. Considering all this, are they still not compliant? Thank you for your time. Ellly35 (talk) 06:50, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi The Squirrel Conspiracy, the edit, which you reverted this morning, was by a :de-VRT-member and followed a request (Ticket#2025101410002165) by the person depicted in the image, who wants their (obviously real) name in the old filename to be removed; see User talk:Túrelio#Eine Frage. I would therefore suggest to comply with the initial request. --Túrelio (talk) 06:49, 15 October 2025 (UTC)
Done. I wouldn't have reverted the request if any of that information was in it. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 08:12, 15 October 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I wanted to ask for your opinion. Do you think I should apply for adminship on Commons? Since you’re already an experienced administrator, your opinion is important to me. I have a good understanding of licensing rules (especially in Central Asian countries), and from time to time I participate in DR. After becoming an administrator I also plan to work on CSD and RfR. I am already an administrator on the kywiki, but there I mostly handle technical tasks and sometimes act as a mediator.
The main reason I’m considering requesting admin rights is that there are no administrators from my region — that is, from Central Asia. I could easily handle requests in languages such as Russian, Kyrgyz, and other related languages (see Robert Lindsay, p. 9). I will also ask other administrators for their opinions and summarize their feedback before deciding whether I should apply for adminship or not. Incall talk 16:47, 19 October 2025 (UTC)

Undeleted: Huh. I was cleaning out Category:Special or fictional flags and I could have sworn none of the ones I zapped were in use. Sorry. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 01:47, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
Thank you. modern_primat ඞඞඞ ----TALK 15:40, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
Talk page blanking
[edit]While I appreciate the thought, I am naturally curious, so I go back and see what you deleted. Having to do that takes more of my time than simply deleting it myself. I think most of our colleagues would have the same reaction to removing stuff -- even really bad stuff -- from our talk pages. It's probably better all around if you resist the temptation. . Would you mind offering assistance?
[edit]At User talk:MastersNE I have been trying to persuade the editor to engage with the COM:VRT process. They and I seem to be at cross purposes. They assert that they own the copyright of all the pictures they have uploaded, but appear unwilling to engage. Indeed they have suggested that I do not message them again, something I am happy to agree to. But it wiggles my that they may own the copyright, despite my doubting it. If they truly own the copyright, that is great. I'm asking for your assistance because you have a wholly uninvolved view, and are good with editors who receive difficulties. It may be that you feel there is no help to be given, and I respect that. 🇵🇸🇺🇦 Timtrent 🇺🇦 talk to me 🇺🇦🇵🇸 21:18, 22 October 2025 (UTC)
Deleted files
[edit]A few hundred files were deleted per nomination at Commons:Deletion requests/Eurovision heart flags of discontinued flags, and whilst I'm not gonna argue against it, could I ask for the following to be undeleted?
- File:EuroLetoniaTextileAnterior.svg
- File:EuroLetoniaTextile.svg
- File:Eurovision Song Contest heart Latvia Textile white.svg
- File:Eurovision 2026 heart - Latvia (textile).svg
- File:Eurovision 2026 white heart - Latvia (textile).svg
The reason being that this is a flag of a country that currently exists and uses this flag. ImStevan (talk) 08:00, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
Not done The flags that are in use are all at Category:Heart-flags of Eurovision (Latvia). There is no reason to have a bunch of unused files for "textile" versions of their flag. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 20:06, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
- So...just not giving people the option to use the flag that they literally fly in real life? Like, their actual flag? ImStevan (talk) 10:27, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- The actual flag is at Category:Heart-flags of Eurovision (Latvia). I don't get your obsession with weird alternate versions of flags, and considering that no one else is using them, it seems like no one else gets it either. The Squirrel Conspiracy (talk) 10:42, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
- You seem to be confused. Latvia has two flags - one for digital spaces, and another one for physical ones. "The actual flag" as you call is is the digital one, however, the actual flag (the one you'd see out on the street for example) is the one you deleted. The ones that were deleted were the only ones used up until 1 January 2019, and it would be accurate to use them in articles up to that point. I will place them in appropriate articles, if you simply allow me to.
- Also, calling it a "weird alternate version" is kind of disrespectful to the nation, in my opinion, and I'm not even Latvian. ImStevan (talk) 11:12, 26 October 2025 (UTC)
